Pamela
Stringer
Pamela
Stringer has been rector of Holy Trinity since November 2000. Before
becoming our rector she served as the interim at St. Thomas, Bath the
oldest church in North Carolina. It was quite a change to lead
worship in a modern space built in 1994 after one built in 1734.
Pamela says " I have been warmly welcomed by young and old
alike. The challenge at Holy Trinity is to grow in non retired
persons in proportion to those who are retired."
Pamela
received her Masters of Divinity degree from Seabury-Western
Theological Seminary in 1984 and was ordained as a deacon in June of
that year in her supporting parish, St. Matthias in Nashville TN. She
served as deacon in training and several other positions at St.
Stephen's, Oak Ridge, TN. Pamela become Mother Pam to the parish when
she was ordained priest in April 1985.
In
1991, Pamela left Oak Ridge to become Canon Missioner at Christ
Church Cathedral in Indianapolis. She also facilitated the youth
ministry, something she has enjoyed doing since her first summer on
the staff of Camp Weed, the Diocese of Florida, in 1967. Pamela was
also responsible for stewardship at the Cathedral, a daunting task
for a parish with the 2nd largest endowment in the Episcopal church.
Born
in suburban Chicago, she moved to north Florida with her family at
the age of five. The family lived in Sewanee, TN during Pamela's high
school years while her father studied for the priesthood. She has a
B.S. in Occupational Therapy from the University of Florida and a
Masters of Art in education from the University of
Alabama-Birmingham. She was on the faculty at the University of Texas
Medical Branch in Galveston from 1973-1977.
Because
of her background and interest in education, Pamela wrote a
Christian formation curriculum, Celebration, for use in her first
parish. It is designed to teach 3-7 year olds about worship. Pamela
continues to be committed to growth through Christian Formation
programs for all ages.
Catherine
Charles joined us in the summer of 2002. She began in her music
ministry at the age of 16, when she was director of the children's
choir at her home church. She has continued to direct choirs and play
in congregations since then, except for a brief 7 year detour in the
Lutheran church while in college. She received her Bachelor of Music
degree from UNC-Greensboro in 1987.
Catherine
served St. Thomas Episcopal church in Ahoskie for 14 years, as
organist, assistant choirmaster, and children's choirmaster. Also,
since its formation, Catherine has sung in the Diocesan Choir Schola
Cantorum and been one of the co-ordinators for the Children's Choir
Conference for the Diocese since its inception 5 years ago.
During
the "day", she teaches elementary music (K-5) for New
Hanover County Schools, split between Wrightsville Beach and Sunset
Park Elementary schools. She has also taught high school choir and
piano for 6 years and middle school choir and general music for 8 years.
Catherine,
welcome to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Hampstead, we're so glad
to be able to experience your talents in our worship services.
